It’s a balmy 28 degrees here this morning (Jan. 30), but the “Polar Vortex” is gaining on us, and tomorrow should bring predicted high winds and -10 chill factor. So I pedaled up to Hay Harbor Club Golf Course to catch this incredible vista.
The Fishers Island Seagrass Management meeting starts at 1 p.m. at the Ferguson Museum. Helping to sustain our healthy eelgrass habitat for generations to come.

This morning I needed to remind myself that the beauty and uniqueness of our Island far outweigh the so-called “winter doldrums”!
I thought too, to remind the community that there will be a quarterly Fishers Island Seagrass Management meeting Wed. (Jan. 30) from 1-4 p.m. at the Ferguson Museum. A coalition forming to preserve, restore and protect the fewer than 400 acres of eelgrass meadows hugging Fishers Island.

Bill Colman and his family of six were driving west on Crescent Avenue heading to Thanksgiving (2018) dinner at the home of his in-laws, the Meyers. They had just passed the electric station, when his wife, Jenny, insisted that they stop and back up the car.
“It was very cold and windy, with 20-30-mph winds, but Jenny noticed the owl on the north side of the road and demanded that we back up. And there it was. A barred owl! It appeared that he was in the tree taking shelter from the wind or just didn’t want to fly under those conditions,” Dr. Colman said.
“In any case, he was more than willing to have his photo taken and didn’t seem scared at all. I couldn’t get to my Nikon fast enough, so used the iPhone to take the shots.”
